Actress Kim HeeAe recently Shared her skincare routine on the YouTube channel of ‘oheunyoungTV’. Psychiatrist Oh EunYoung asked Kim about her personal skincare secrets. She responded, “Getting enough sleep is crucial. I go to bed early, never past 10 PM.“

She continued, “To be honest, I don’t have a strong interest in skincare. However, due to my profession, I do a minimum amount of skincare because I have to participate in fashion and cosmetics shoots.” She also mentioned, “I spend a lot of time outdoors, which doesn’t help my skin. Recently, I’ve been enjoying various activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, and freediving.“

The Golden Time for Skin Regeneration

Kim HeeAe emphasized the importance of going to bed by 10 PM, which coincides with the skin’s regeneration golden hour. During this time, from 10 PM to 2 AM, the secretion of growth hormones is at its peak, promoting skin regeneration. Growth hormones not only help in the regeneration of skin cells but also assist hyaluronic acid in drawing moisture to the skin, making it look hydrated and radiant.

Adequate sleep is essential. If you don’t sleep well, adrenal cortex hormones become activated, increasing cortisol levels, which can dry out the skin and break down collagen, leading to wrinkles. Therefore, to maintain healthy skin, it’s vital to go to bed early and aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep.

As individuals enter their 50s, collagen production decreases, leading to reduced skin elasticity. Hormonal changes can also cause dryness, resulting in fine lines around the eyes, neck, jawline, cheeks, and mouth. When the skin is dry, wrinkles become more noticeable. To combat this, it’s important to use moisturizers generously and avoid washing the face or showering with excessively hot water. Additionally, signs of aging can appear on the hands, so using hand cream and sunscreen is also recommended.

Stress Relief Through Exercise

For those experiencing a loss of skin vitality due to decreased estrogen during menopause, increasing soy intake can be beneficial. Soy contains isoflavones, plant compounds that mimic estrogen in the body and can help improve skin texture.

During menopause, chronic stress can also be a concern. Stress can lead to dry and sensitive skin, so engaging in yoga, meditation, and other hobbies to relieve stress is advisable.

Kim HeeAe also emphasizes the importance of exercise. Physical activity helps eliminate toxins and improves blood circulation, contributing to clear and healthy skin. However, if exercising outdoors, as KIM does, it’s essential to use a high-SPF sunscreen and reapply it frequently.
